    Lebanon: the white paper

    Stakeholders in Lebanon call for increased awareness, business support services, networking opportunities and better access to affordable financing, amongst other actions, to support the country’s growing ecosystem of green entrepreneurs and individuals and community-based groups that are promoting ecological and social innovations. These stakeholders – representing green entrepreneurs, grassroots initiatives, public institutions, supporting organisations and financial actors amongst others – came together for a Synergy Workshop organised in the context of the EU-funded SwitchMed Programme to discuss challenges, opportunities and solutions surrounding green entrepreneurship and eco-innovative grassroots initiatives in Lebanon. The key messages from these stakeholders are captured in the White Paper on “Promotion of Green Entrepreneurship and Grassroots Ecological and Social Innovations in Lebanon”.

    Morocco: the white paper

    The white paper is a photograph of the moment that proposes to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the Moroccan green entrepreneurship ecosystem, in order to reveal the areas and axes where the needs for action are greatest. It summarizes the opinions of some forty stakeholders interviewed individually (public institutions, financial institutions, support structures, project sponsors) as well as the results of the Synergies workshop held in May 2016 in Rabat, which brought together some 100 Actors from nearly 60 different organizations. These results have been classified into several factors affecting the project or initiative initiator. (the document is available only in french for the moment)

It aims at achieving as a first step the shift to sustainable patterns in four priority areas of consumption and production, namely Food, Fisheries and Agriculture; Goods manufacturing; Tourism and Housing/construction. Discover this publication embodying the first treaty in the Mediterranean basin to focus its efforts on the need to turn toward a more sustainable economy based on a circular economy, a more environmentally-friendly consumption, and greener production method.

Process: The Action Plan for the Promotion of Sustainable Consumption and Production Modes gives a new impetus to the dynamics generated by the SNDD in order to establish a mode of development capable of meeting the needs and aspirations of present and future generations.

  • Egypt: SCP National Action Plan

    Egypt: SCP National Action Plan

    Priorities: Policy Instruments for SCP Programme; Integrated Community Development; Sustainable Agriculture; Sustainable Water Management; Sustainable and Renewable Energy Applications; Solid Waste Management; Process: This action plan was developed by using a multi-stakeholder approach, including 92 experts. It is translated into 6 different programs to implement 28 projects, presented by 13 different government institutions and specialized research centres.

    Jordan: National Strategy and Action for Mainstreaming SCP

    Priorities: Agriculture and Food Industry; Transport Sector; Waste Management Sector; Process: The strategy, developed through an extensive stakeholders’ participation and engagement processes, determined three strategic objectives: to establish a national platform, to develop and implement national SCP operational objectives and to engage key national stakeholders.

    Priorities: - Sustainable Production - Initiatives that give emphasis to the supply side; Sustainable Consumption - Initiatives that give emphasis to the demand side; Connecting the Dots: Between Sustainable Production and Sustainable Consumption -Initiatives that are positioned in the interface between sustainable production and sustainable consumption Process: In total 500 key stakeholders (including representatives from business and civil society) were involved through round tables, conferences and meetings. The outcomes shaped the entire plan.

    Tunisia: Ten Year Agri-Food Action Plan

    Priorities: 10year framework action plan for the agrifood sector; 10year framework action plan for the tourism sector; coordination mechanism for SCP-NAP implementation; Process: Based on the State of the Art on SCP report, two ten-year plans were developed for the tourism and agri-food sector. The action plans have been drawn up following and in-depth consultation with all stakeholders in Tunisia.

    Priorities: Sustainable Tourism, Agriculture and food (including food manufacturing), Housing and construction Process: this assessment developed through an effective participation of all stakeholders in the sector, representing government institutions, private sector, civil society as well as international donors and partners.

    Priorities: adopt best available techniques to promote SCP in the industrial sector; introduce SCP approaches related to the industrial sector in the policy and institutional frameworks; educate and raise awareness of consumers on SCP in the industrial sector; Process: in a multi-stakeholder and inclusive process Lebanon developed a national SCP Action Plan for the Industrial Sector to promote SCP, with a special focus on the Litani Basin and Qaraoun Lake.
