Good communication is important in business to connect effectively with people in a wide variety of situations. So, when entrepreneurs meet potential investors, is of paramount importance to find the correct way to communicate as this can change the chance of a company to get funded or not.

As John C. Maxwell points out in one of his books, ¨Everyone Communicates, Few Connect: What the Most Effective People Do Differently¨ ,if you want to want to succeed, you must learn how to connect with people. And while it may seem like some folks are just born with it, the fact is anyone can learn how to make every communication an opportunity for a powerful connection. Despite green entrepreneurs can possess very brilliant ideas for products development or new services creation, not using the appropriate messages might lead to not so high possibilities of getting funded.

At SwitchMed we believe that improving the green entrepreneurs communication skills is crucial in order to talk to investors but more important, to get their attention. As of April 2017 until the end of the year, 8 NationalGreen start –ups meet investors” events will be organized aiming at gathering entrepreneurs and financial actors together to show the potential of the business ideas to investors and therefore to promote the green entrepreneurs access to finance.

During the 8 national events, each entrepreneur will give an elevator pitch, which will provide a quick outline of the green Business ideas detailing the executive summary of the company. Claudia Pani, SwitchMed project manager, explains that ¨such events are very important for the entrepreneurs as they will allow them to show not only their projects but also to draw the attention of the correct investors and eventually to have the opportunity to start a financing process¨. 

A good and successful communication starts with a good planning. This is why in order to get green entrepreneurs ready to meet potential investors, local seminars will be held with only entrepreneurs  before the national “Green start –ups meet investors” event takes place, to improve their business plan and to nail their oral communication. In brief, the seminars will support the green entrepreneurs to introduce the content of their business effectively way and to prepare their meetings with potential investors.

 To implement these initiatives SwitchMed is partnering with local organisations with relevant experience in business support, access to finance and coaching for entrepreneurs. In addition, the Local Partners will be playing a key role in the development of the “Green Entrepreneurs portfolio”: the first MENA detailed collection of business ideas that will be presented to the potential investors before launching the events. To this end, financial actors will be aware of the business ideas that will be presented during the elevator pitches. Furthermore financers will receive specific information on the entrepreneurs’ finance needs together with the first technical details, which is useful in order to evaluate if the businesses are financeable.
