The 2018 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development is expected to facilitate a transition towards sustainable and resilient societies, for which sustainable investments, income generation and decent jobs duly come up as common denominators.
The SWITCH programmes in Asia, the Mediterranean and Africa offer a model for the promotion of sustainable consumption and production (SCP) to SMEs which has delivered results that are well aligned to the One Planet Network / 10YFP and the Agenda 2030, and on which the European Union builds for future green business support. In fact, a large variety of individual projects in diverse economic sectors have been implemented under the SWITCH programmes, supporting the adoption of SCP practices through a wide range of activities, including raising SME and consumer awareness on SCP practices and associated opportunities, building capacity on SCP practices and on the development of bankable projects, transferring skills, providing business advice to eco-entrepreneurs, promoting B2B dialogue and exchange of experience, matchmaking with financial institutions, supporting private sector participation in the development of enabling policy and regulatory environment for eco-entrepreneurship and SCP practices, and strengthening commitments to sustainable supply chains and developing mechanisms to enhance trade in sustainable commodities.
In this context, Switch2green initiative has organised the SWITCH side-event during the 2018 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. The SWITCH side-event will share success stories from the field, highlighting the experiences of the SWITCH partners and other stakeholders actively involved in promoting an inclusive green economy transition.
Among the speakers, SwitchMed Programme's focal point in Jordan, Mr Mohamad Afana, from Ministry of the Environment, will be presenting the development and implementation results of policy instruments targeting SCP practices in the private sector in Jordan.
