by switchmed last modified Oct 16, 2014 01:39 PM

If you are concerned by the current state of the Mediterranean Environment and you would like to take part in the development and implementation of new measures to move towards a green and circular economy in the Region, we invite you to raise your voice through this consultation platform in order to shape the Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) Action Plan for the Mediterranean that is currently being developed with the support of the SWITCH-Med Initiative.

This SCP Action Plan, together with its Roadmap, will be submitted for endorsement by the 22 Contracting Parties of the Barcelona Convention for the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea Against Pollution at the end of 2015.

Through this consultation platform we would like to hear from business intermediaries, organizations supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses, civil society organisations, research institutions, educational bodies, local governments, inter-governmental organisations, development agencies or similar as each of these stakeholders has a key role to play in the shift towards a new market of sustainable products and services in the Mediterranean. Get on board!

As explained in the consultation paper for the preparation of the SCP Action Plan for the Mediterranean, the food and agriculture, tourism, goods manufacturing and housing and construction sectors have been identified as key economic sectors for the Sustainable Development of the Mediterranean and will form the 4 main axis of the SCP Action Plan.

On the 1st and 2nd of October in Marseille, around 40 organisations were invited to participate to a “Regional stakeholders’ consultation meeting on the SCP Action Plan for the Mediterranean”. During this meeting, the participants already worked on the challenges to be tackled by the SCP Action Plan and suggested a first list of measures for each sector. The results of the meeting are compiled in a document you will be invited to read before participating to the online consultation process.

Without further ado, we invite you to get to know the 4 simple steps you will have to follow in order be consulted on the SCP Action Plan for the Mediterranean. Thank you in advance for your contribution!

Please note that the DEADLINE for responding to the survey closes on OCTOBER 29TH.

FOLLOW THE 4 STEPS HERE TO CONTRIBUTE WITH YOUR IDEAS TO SHAPE THE SCP ACTION PLAN FOR THE MEDITERRANEAN

Step 1:

Read 2 documents: the consultation paper for the preparation of the SCP Action Plan for the Mediterranean and the results of the Marseille regional stakeholders consultation meeting

The “consultation paper” provides you with background information on the Global and Mediterranean governance framework for SCP and informs you about the preparation process for the development of the SCP action plan for the Mediterranean.  It also presents the main challenges related to the mainstreaming of the SCP approach in the region and suggests to develop the SCP Action Plan around 4 key economic sectors for the sustainable development of the region, namely ((i) Food and agriculture (ii) goods manufacturing (iii) Tourism (iv) housing and construction.

The “results of the Marseille consultation meeting” provides you with an executive summary of the meeting as well as with the challenges and measures developed by the invited organisations. We invite you to read carefully this document as the step 3 will invite you to provide your contribution on the basis of this document.
